First CPR Class? Here’s Exactly What to Expect
Taking a CPR or First Aid class for the first time can feel a little intimidating, but it shouldn’t be. At A-B-CPR & First Aid Training Inc. in Oceanside, we’ve trained thousands of North County residents with clear, supportive, hands-on instruction that’s designed for total beginners.
Whether you’re coming for job certification or personal preparedness, here’s a breakdown of what your experience will look like—so you can walk in confident and ready to learn.
Arrival and Check-In
Our Oceanside location is located at 4083 Oceanside Blvd, Suite B, with plenty of free parking. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to check in and get settled.
You’ll be welcomed by our staff and directed to the classroom where your instructor will introduce the course and outline what you’ll be doing during the session.
Course Options: Choose What You Need
At A-B-CPR Oceanside, we offer several in-person certification options, including:
- CPR, AED & First Aid Combo – our most popular course
- CPR AED Only – great for personal or workplace CPR certification
- First Aid Only – covers non-cardiac emergencies
- BLS for Healthcare Providers – for medical professionals
- Pediatric CPR & First Aid (EMSA Approved) – required for licensed childcare
If you’re not sure which course is right for you, give us a call at (619) 281-3304, and we’ll help you register for the correct one.
Hands-On, Instructor-Led Learning
Our classes are taught by certified instructors with real emergency response experience—not just textbook knowledge. During the class, you’ll:
- Learn the proper steps for CPR on adults, children, and infants
- Practice using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Get hands-on with First Aid scenarios like burns, bleeding, choking, and allergic reactions
- Work in small groups or individually using training mannequins
- Receive live feedback to build confidence in your technique
No experience is required. Everything is explained in simple, clear steps, and our instructors create a low-pressure, supportive learning environment.
Certification and What Happens After the Class
At the end of your session, there will be a short review or skills assessment, depending on the course type. Once completed:
- You’ll receive your certification card, valid for 2 years
- You’ll walk away knowing how to respond confidently in an emergency
- Your certification will be recognized by employers, schools, and licensing boards across California
What to Bring to the Class
- A photo ID
- Comfortable clothing (you’ll be practicing on the floor for some exercises)
- A water bottle and notepad (optional)
- A face mask (optional, based on current guidelines)
All training materials and equipment will be provided.
